The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so -
'twas heaven here with you.

Royce

~~Royce was one of the first misunderstood dogs that found refuge here at the sanctuary. He came to us labeled as aggressive to animals and people and had a bite history. Throughout the 7 years that Royce lived with us he never showed any aggression towards us. We called him our "Perfect Gentleman" because that is what he was - we kept him safe and well loved. We worked on socializing Royce with other animals and for the last few years of his life, Royce lived in our home with other dogs and cats. Near the end, Royce developed many health issues. His acupuncture treatments and pain meds did wonders for quite some time, but the day came when nothing seemed to work anymore. We helped Royce cross over the Rainbow Bridge to continue on with his journey - now pain free.
Thank you, Royce, for all you taught us and for letting us care for and love you. You are missed so much and loved forever.

Annie

They said no one would ever adopt you, they were so wrong. You were young, wild and out of control...but oh, so sweet when you were loved. It didn't take long until you learned how to be a "good dog". You had your moments, and so did we. You taught us patience and never to give up. You had the best recall in class and would come flying and sit so close to our feet for the reward. You loved your dog "bro", Otto, and had great respect for your big "bro", Buddy.

After 12 years we thought we were going to lose you, but your "zest for life" proved the vets wrong and saved you. We were blessed to have almost two more years with you. I wish it could have lasted forever. You were the last of the trio to pass, thank you for being my little buddy through it all, thank you for our "morning peanut butter toast on the couch". My little Beanie, we will see you again. Love you so much.

Banjo

On September 30th, 2013, our hearts broke as sweet Banjo crossed over the Rainbow bridge. His tired, old legs could no longer help him up, and his bad days grew to outnumber his good ones. Banjo had a very difficult life prior to coming to the sanctuary, and we know his time spent here was comforting. Banjo enjoyed his daily walks, treats in his Kong and loving attention. Most of all Banjo enjoyed basking in the sunshine and enjoying the peace and quiet of sanctuary. We love you, miss you and we are so thankful that we were able to help you, Banjo - run free, old boy.

Otto

I sat next to you on the hillside with my arm around you. You didn't seem to mind. On the car ride home you never sat down - a little unsure. The first time we turned the light on in the house it startled you. It made sense, outside the sun comes up slowly. Now you were safe and warm...and so loved. You showed an intensity in your gaze that you finally let rest on our eyes. There we saw the kindness in your soul. So loyal and obedient until the very end. Thank you, Otto, for sharing your life with us. You taught us so much about the intricacies of the canine world. You were a special friend who is dearly missed. Look forward to looking into your eyes again and smiling.

Rosie

You walked out of the long grasses of the field and into our hearts one summer day. It didn't take long for you to became part of our family. So sweet and calm - a great influence on the canines, grooming their faces. An early riser with your gentle meow on the pillow. Rosie, you touched our hearts in ways we never imagined. Our special little fur ball - rest in peace with your big Buddy until we meet again.
